The Great Awakened Confederation (GAC) is a country in North America. It is a confederation of several religious sub-states, known as "communities", under the jurisdiction of a biannual convention named the Holy Communion. It borders the Pacific Ocean to the west, Hudson to the north, Novaria to the northeast, Missouri to the east, Carolina to the southeast, and Sonora to the south.
History[edit]
During the 17th century and leading up to 1844, the territory of the GAC was part of the Spanish Empire. The first communities to migrate there were the Quimbites in 1840, the Colorados in 1845, and the Mormons in 1847, moving into areas outside of Spanish or Mexican control. When Mexico became independent in 1844, its leadership looked to fully consolidate its territory. 1848 saw the purging of the Colorados from their homeland, triggering a crisis in the north that would result in the formation of the United Revelation, a coalition between the communities in the north as well as new ones looking for freer territory, made for protection against the Mexicans. An unexpected sighting of Mexican soldiers in Fort Utah set off the Great War of the Mountains between 1849 and 1863, a long guerilla war that resulted in Mexico ceding all of its land north of the Young line to the newly formed GAC.
Up until 1983, the GAC was a very loose state with almost no form of government besides communal policing of the Revelation Agreement. This status led to many internal wars, a lacking foreign policy, and many attempts of secession from the Confederation. On November 12th, 1983, many of the largest communities concurred to form the Holy Communion to provide a way to discuss and make judgments on issues, appoint ambassadors and diplomats, and provide benefits for communities to stay within the country.
